Page 23 of 27 Woodvale Senior High SchoolLocationClick on the map icon to view our School's location in Perth.OverviewWoodvale Senior High School opened in 1985 with approximately 200 Year 8 students. The school has grown in numbers to 1596 students with 1020 in the Lower School and 576 in the Upper School.Academically, Woodvale students perform at a level above the State average. The Academic Extension Programme receives good community support, the Music Programme sees 20% of the population participating in an instrumental programme and the school each year presents a number of students who do well in the Tertiary Entrance Examination. The school facilities are modern and well equipped with well developed grounds. A new music facility has this year been built and is now in use and all classrooms will be air conditioned by the start of the 2007 school year. In particular, the campus wide Information Technology Network provides a wide range of digital media capabilities and professional level software, and is noteworthy in that it compares favourably with any of the best equipped schools in the nation. Special ProgramsSome of the special programs offered to our students include:> Academic Extension – the school operates an in house Academic Extension programme for years 8-10. > Basketball program - aims to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge in students that will enable them to compete successfully in basketball at the highest levels. > Soccer program - Woodvale SHS is the only Department of Education and Training approved Specialist Soccer Program located in the Northern Suburbs. The program caters for both genders, with classes for boys and girls in both lower and upper school. The program commenced in 2000 and caters for all year groups (8 – 12). > Technology Focus School - a major focus in the school is the application of IT for curriculum delivery across all areas. > Languages - Japanese, Asian Language and Cultural Studies. > Vocational Education and Training – Animal Studies > Music – the school operates a well established music programme for years 8-12. Some 250 students are involved in performance based on concert band format.
