Overview

The attractive buildings include specialist facilities in home economics, design and technology, business education and information technology. The school has a purpose built Recreation Centre, 50m Olympic size swimming pool, baseball diamond and sporting ovals.

A $1.7m Music Centre was completed in 2005 and includes an auditorium, 8 teaching studios and 2 classrooms, as well as sound recording facilities.

The pastoral care programme at South Fremantle Senior High School is very effective in providing a safe and friendly learning environment. A Student Services team is dedicated to ensuring that students have the necessary support to succeed at school.

Special Programs

These programs are available to international fee paying students. Interested students should contact the school for information about application procedures.

> Marine Studies (Years 8-10) is incorporated into the science and physical education programs. The school uses facilities at Fishing Boat Harbour and the ocean and the expertise of the Professional Association of Diving instructors. Students in the program have the option of completing a recognised SCUBA course. Entrance to this program is by interview and written application.

> Music (Years 8-12) gives students extra curricular opportunities to further extend their skills in the discipline of music. Selection is based on audition. There are annual Music tours, either interstate or overseas.

> Academic Excellence (years 8-10) is designed to meet the needs of students identified as academically gifted and talented. Students must sit an entry test.

> Baseball –SFSHS is the only W.A. school to offer a specialist baseball programme. Successful graduates have gained places in the U.S.A. League. Currently South Fremantle Senior High School is the Australian Schools’ Champion School. In years 11 and 12, South Fremantle Senior High School offers specialist programmes in Hospitality, Business and Tourism, Marine Industries and a full TEE programme. All new students coming into the school are partnered with a buddy student. Year coordinators for each year group, provide an advisory and support service for students and their parents.

English Support

The school has staff members qualified to teach English as a Second Language.
