Overview

Being one of the largest secondary schools in Western Australia, Kelmscott Senior High School is able to offer an outstanding range of educational programs. Subjects are offered in a wide variety of combinations to meet the abilities and course preferences of individual students. The school has a particularly strong reputation in the sciences, including geology, and above average tertiary entrance scores mean that many students gain entry to various university science courses and the Kalgoorlie School of Mines.

Interested students have access to the school farms where they have the opportunity to apply sciences in the school’s prize-winning stud cattle and sheep breeding programs. Farming facilities include a 3 hectare intensive farming property adjacent to the campus with a 40 hectare broad acre farm within 10 minutes of the school. Farm resources include an extensive range of animals, dairy, orchard and agricultural machinery.

The school has established on-line links to Curtin University and selected year 12 students may study units in university courses such as nanotechnology, environmental science or accounting.

Special Programs

These programs are available to international fee paying students. Interested students should contact the school for information about application procedures.

> Agriculture courses (years 8-12) in animal husbandry and horticulture are open to all interested students. These are non-tertiary entrance courses, but successful and talented students can gain accreditation to veterinary and science courses at Curtin University and Muresk Agricultural College.

> Academic Talent programs (years 8-10) in mathematics/ science and the humanities provide extension activities to talented students. International students in the school may be admitted to these programs based on their academic performance and teacher recommendation.

> Music (years 8-12) is recognised for excellence across the metropolitan area.

> Football/Soccer and Athletics (years 8-12). Students are selected for these programs in year 8 and may continue through physical education studies in the upper school. The school has been the state A division winner in athletics for the past two years.
