A study tour program was held at John Forrest Secondary College in March for a group of nine students from Kagoshima National College of Technology, in Japan. Kagoshima National College of Technology is a college for students aged between 15 and 20 years old.

Perth was chosen as the study tour destination of choice due to the sister city links with Kagoshima, Japan. Perth has had a sister city relationship with Kagoshima, located in the south-western tip of Kyushu Island, since 1974. This long standing affiliation is very proactive and considered one of the most successful in Australia. The study tour group also had the opportunity to meet with Perth's Lord Mayor, Lisa Scaffidi.

During the study tour program the students studied English and experienced life in a typical classroom studying with an Australian buddy. As part of a cultural exchange activity the study tour group helped teach their Australian friends how to make a simple robot in electronic classes and also Associate Professor Mr Matsuda conducted a Kendo demonstration.

They visited Caversham Wildlife Park, Kings Park, Cottesloe Beach and Fremantle for sightseeing and they enjoyed living with a homestay family.

Phil Chadwick, Program Coordinator for the Arts / LOTE area and the Japanese teacher who coordinated the program at John Forrest Secondary College delivered a wonderful study tour for the students. It was a great success and the college intends to send a larger group of students for its 2012 tour.
