Carine Senior High School is set in attractive grounds and the faculty buildings are connected by covered walkways through pleasant surrounds. Tranquil green land, ovals and parks flank the modern buildings.

Churchlands Senior High School

Churchlands has the largest grounds of a metropolitan government high school with tennis courts, five ovals and a heated swimming pool.

Churchlands students are consistently ranked in the top percentile of statewide and national education testing in mathematics, computing and the sciences. Cyril Jackson Senior Campus is a unique educational institution in Western Australia catering for a wide range of post compulsory studies in a mature learning environment. Cyril Jackson Senior Campus has an Intensive English Centre for post compulsory students which means that the campus is an ideal centre for international students.

Students may choose from a wide range of university and TAFE entrance courses. Mid-year entry to year 11 courses means that students may complete some year 11 courses in 6 months.

The library is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm throughout the year and there is a cafeteria, an FM Radio station, a television studio, a music centre and a theatre arts centre. Greenwood Senior High School

Greenwood Senior High School is a well established secondary school situated in a quiet suburb 17 km north of Perth city. It is a clean, safe, spacious, middle sized school located on a grassy five hectare site among stands of restful native trees. Greenwood Senior High School welcomes international students. As there is an Intensive English Centre on campus students are used to mixing with international students and are aware of their aspirations and needs. For thirty years the school has had a bilateral relationship with Japanese schools in Kagoshima leading to student exchange programs.

Greenwood has rigorous Mathematics, Science, English and Social Science programs that cater well for students of all ability levels. Greenwood has an Intensive English Centre which caters for up to 130 students across Years 8 to 10 who need to develop their English skills and gain confidence in their assimilation into the Australian education and cultural environments. The Intensive English Centre provides 6 to 12 months of intensive English lessons to international and migrant students in order to prepare them for mainstream schooling. After entering the mainstream setting further ESL support is provided by trained ESL teachers.

Overview

Melville Senior High School welcomes students from many different backgrounds into a caring and supportive environment. It has a long and successful tradition of catering for international students from countries such as China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

Students are able to select from an extensive list of courses of study that are either wholly school assessed or tertiary entrance scored that will allow students to enter the workforce or continue post secondary education at TAFE or university.

English Support

Melville Senior High School has had an Intensive English Language Centre for a number of years catering for students from years 8 to 12. The aim of the centre is to help newly arrived migrant children assimilate into Western Australian government schools and to improve their English and literacy skills. Students are eligible to study English for up to four terms before entering a mainstream educational context where ongoing English as a second language support is maintained. As well as the eleven teachers working in the centre, many other teachers in the school are trained in teaching English as a second language.

Currently Mount Lawley Senior High School has undergone a massive $34 million redevelopment program. North Lake Senior Campus is a quality school providing year 11 and 12 courses to a diverse group of young adults and adults. Overview

Woodvale Senior High School opened in 1985 with approximately 200 Year 8 students.  The school has grown in numbers to 1596 students with 1020 in the Lower School and 576 in the Upper School.

Academically, Woodvale students perform at a level above the State average. The Academic Extension Programme receives good community support, the Music Programme sees 20% of the population participating in an instrumental programme and the school each year presents a number of students who do well in the Tertiary Entrance Examination.

Rockingham SHS is set in tranquil grounds approximately 35 kilometres south of Perth. It offers a unique sub-school structure which caters for a diverse range of student interests. W.A. College of Agriculture - Harvey

Overview

Harvey is a campus of the Western Australian College of Agriculture catering for students from years 11 to 12 (this may be expanded to Yr 10).

It provides skills education programs in agriculture and horticulture relevant to the higher rainfall zones of Western Australia and an extensive range of pre-apprenticeship training in the automotive, building and metallurgical trade streams.

Harvey campus is a coeducational boarding college that provides well equipped single room style accommodation for its students. It offers full board and laundry facilities and the fully equipped catering facility is staffed by qualified personnel. The cost per year for a boarding student is around A$7,000.

Special Programs

General Stream: A combination of plant and animal production, business management, English and mathematics provides the basis for the theoretical components of the course. This is coupled with farm practice and workshop courses in building, woodwork, metalwork and mechanics. Students in year 12 can choose specific electives from:

(a) Viticulture: Students study plant production and undertake practical work on both table and wine grape production, including producing wine on the college farm.

(b) Horticulture: Students study plant production including hydroponics and parks and gardens and/or orcharding.

(c) Beef/Dairy/Sheep/Pigs: Students study animal production in their area of choice to obtain specific certificates.

(d) Forestry: Students study all the components of the general stream with a plants emphasis on agroforestry. Students also undertake work in the field of forest management.

(e) Other Electives: Amenity horticulture and aquaculture are being developed as electives.

Trade Stream: Students study English, business, trade drawing, mathematics and farm practice. More time is spent in the metal, mechanical and building trades subjects. These students have an option to undertake ten days of industry placement per year.

Practical Stream: This stream enables students to undertake skills only training in the workshop and on the farm, studying English, some mathematics and information technology. Students spend one day in a classroom each week.
