About Tuart College & Canning CollegeTuart & Canning are government colleges that have provided pre-university (foundation) studies for local and international students since 1982. Both colleges are located just 15 minutes from the Perth city centre - Tuart to the North and Canning to the South. Each College has approximately 1000 students with around 200 being international students.A Unique Relationship with Western Australia's UniversitiesCanning & Tuart have a unique relationship with Western Australia's four government universities. They are the only government Colleges that run the Western Australian Universities' Foundation Program (WAUFP) - which has been specially designed to prepare international students for university studies. Every student who successfully completes the WAUFP program is guaranteed a place in one of the four Western Australian public universities. Why Study at Canning or Tuart CollegeOutstanding Success RatesOne of the key reasons we're such a popular choice are the consistently high results our international students achieve each year. Our Colleges maintain a university entry rate of around 80%, which is one of the best in Australia. Every year, a significant number of our students achieve academic results at the top levels in the State, enabling them to go on to study the most competitive degrees such as Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Engineering, Architecture, Physiotherapy, Dentistry and Veterinary Science.Keep your Options OpenMost of our international students are between 16-19 years old and many have not decided on the career they wish to pursue or even picked a specific university degree to seek entry into. By studying at our Colleges, they are able to continue studies in several subjects of interest with the potential to apply to any degree program in Australia or overseas.Special English Instruction & SupportA key component in our programs is the development of English language competency alongside academic studies. All of our students improve their English considerably and advance their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.Guaranteed University EntryOur most popular program for international students is the Western Australian Universities' Foundation Program (WAUFP) - which is offered in coordination with W.A.'s four largest universities: UWA, Curtin, Murdoch and Edith Cowan. Successful graduates of this program are guaranteed a place at one of these universities. These universities also maintain guaranteed entry scores for each course - giving our graduates the comfort of knowing that obtaining the required score will assure them of a place in the course and university of their choice. The ProgramsInternational students with the required academic background and English language proficiency can enrol directly in the university foundation program. Otherwise, they start with bridging programs of flexible lengths to upgrade their English and academics.W.A. Universities Foundation ProgramThe Western Australian Universities' Foundation Program (WAUFP) is the program that the majority of our international students complete. It has been designed with W.A.'s four major universities to provide successful graduates guaranteed places upon completion. The universities are: Curtin University of Technology, the University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University. Each year, these universities establish specific WAUFP entry scores for all of their degree courses and graduates who obtain these scores are guaranteed places in these courses. The Foundation Program is available in two variations, depending on your previous academic completion, how intensively you wish to study, and your timing preferences:
The TEE ProgramThe Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE) program is the way local Australian students qualify for tertiary entry (it is not customized for international students), but is also available through Canning & Tuart. Most international students choose the Foundation Program, however the TEE program may suit those who either:
Bridging Programs (extra preparation for those who need it)Our students come from many countries and often are accustomed to quite different curriculum and methods of teaching. Other students who wish to undertake pre-university studies don't yet have the English language competency needed or sufficient background in the academic subjects they wish to study. For this reason, Canning & Tuart have developed flexible Bridging Programs that upgrade a student's English and academics to the level needed to start the Foundation or TEE Program. These Bridging Programs are offered for 4, 8, 10, 15, 18 or 40 weeks - depending on the length needed. They are also timed to run so that the student can commence the Foundation or TEE Program upon completion without any lengthy break in between. Our University ConnectionsUnrivalled University RelationshipsCanning & Tuart have unmatched relationships with Western Australia's four major universities: the University of Western Australia (UWA), Curtin University of Technology, Murdoch University and Edith Cowan University. These relationships provide our graduates with guaranteed entry to one of these universities and definite entry scores into all degree courses.Curtin University of TechnologyCurtin University of Technology has earned a reputation as a dynamic and innovative Australian university, with very modern and flexible courses. Its main Perth campus is in Bentley - next to Canning College. Curtin has been very active in international programs and enrols over two thousand international students each year. The University of Western AustraliaUWA is Western Australia's oldest university and is a member of the prestigious 'Group of Eight' research universities. Its riverside Nedlands campus, only minutes from the city centre, offers an unrivalled study experience, with beautiful gardens and architecture.Murdoch UniversityMurdoch University is situated south of the river, about 20 minutes from the Perth city centre and 10 minutes from the popular, port town of Fremantle. In the last few decades it has acquired an excellent reputation for the quality of its teaching and modern, purpose-built facilities. It is one of the highest rated universities in Australia in terms of graduate satisfaction.Edith Cowan UniversityEdith Cowan University has a large and diverse student population who study at one of its three metropolitan campuses - in Churchlands, Mount Lawley or Joondalup. It works very closely with industry to deliver practical and contemporary education.Other Further Study OptionsWhile most of our students go on to university, our programs are also suitable for entry into any type of tertiary study - including, for example, the Diploma courses offered through our W.A. government's TAFE Colleges. These diploma courses are very popular because they are practical and employment focused and much less expensive than university. With the severe skills shortage in Perth many TAFE graduates are being allowed to stay in Perth to work and ultimately migrate. How to Apply and What it Will CostCollege WebsitesYou can get all the details about the Colleges and their programs from their websites:> Tuart College & Canning College - Pathways to University > Canning College website > Tuart College website College Contact DetailsCanning CollegeMarquis Street, Bentley.
