Marine Tourism (Certificate II to Certificate III)   


Program DetailsProgram Details  
This course provides skills to work as a deckhand, tour guide or hospitality worker in the marine tourism industry. Students learn about practical seamanship, small vessel operations and maintenance, the marine environment, skills to conduct a charter and provide tour commentaries, prepare and serve food and drinks, sail, sea kayak, snorkel and dive. Students will gain an Elements of Shipboard Safety Certificate and a Bronze Medallion and diving qualifications to the PADI standard.

Approximate Tuition Costs: A$5,000 per semester
Commencement/Intake Availability: February and July
Other Study Costs (paid to College upon start):
A diving fee of around A$350 applies and a diving medical exam costs around A$80. A radio licence is also required which costs about A$50.

This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome. Please see the study pathway diagram below.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

All entry into this program is at the Certificate II level. This requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English.

For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary (PDF) for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.


Work Experience, Activities & Events

The Certificate III is delivered as a flexible training program with supervised time spent in a workplace environment.


Career Outcomes

Graduates can gain employment in various tourism based operations including Deckhand fishing charter, dive charter, eco-tourism charter, sailing charter, snorkelling tours, onshore tour operations, cruise ship recreational/activities and in the marine tourism hospitality area.
