Aeronautics - Pilot Training (Cert IV to Diploma)

Perth is a very safe flight training environment due to minimal air traffic, sunny and stable weather conditions, and a flat landscape. Singapore Airlines does much of its training in Perth for these reasons. The course provides the theoretical and flight training requirements for the Civil Aviation and Safety Authority (CASA) Private Pilots License (PPL) and Commercial Pilots License (CPL). Incorporated is 150 hours of flight instruction for the CPL. The students also have the option of doing further study for the Airline Transport Pilots License (ATPL) theory exams.

Special Entry Requirements:
Students are required to undertake an Aviation Class 1 medical examination by a CASA approved Designated Aviation Medical Examiner. This can be done once in Perth
Other Study Costs (paid to College upon start): Pilot uniform - $630

This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome. Please see the study pathway diagram below.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

This depends on your entry point as explained in the pathway diagram above. For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary (PDF) for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.


Career Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this course will be eligible to apply for entrance to CASA Industry Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) theory examinations. When the student has completed the optional flight training component, they can on recommendation attempt the CPL flight test. The CPL is the entry level qualification for pilots to work in the aviation industry. Students completing the Diploma will be prepared to sit for the CASA industry (ATPL) examinations.


Further Study & University Options

Students who complete the Cert IV and diploma can continue on to the Associate Degree in Aviation at TAFE or the Bachelor of Science - Aviation Studies at Edith Cowan University. With considerable credit.


Additional Program Costs (paid directly to the College)


The course fees of (AUD) $64,500 includes landing fees, tuition, subject notes, Medical Examination Class 1, student pilot licence, student pilot manual, log book certification (8), 1 x BAK examination fee and GFP flight test (General Flying Progress Test) fee, 1 x PPL examination fee and flight test fee, 1 x CPL examination fee and flight test fee, CPL flight test of 2.5 hours, flight training 150 hours (including night rating). On receipt of a Flight Headset, SWAN TAFE will refund (AUD) $200 to student. Text materials and Leaning Resources will be provided in the College Learning Resource Centre. Test resits are the responsibility of the student. Students are required to purchase a pilots uniform. Recognition of previous flying experience may be credited to a student's log book. They may reduce the number of flying hours and cost required to obtain CPL.
