This qualification provides students with the knowledge and skills required for employment in the General Land Management, Natural Area and Restoration, Land Parks and Wildlife and Weed Management sectors. It provides a thorough insight into the various areas of these industries.

Duration (depends on entry & exit point): 6 months to 2 years of full-time study
Study Location(s) Available: In Perth - Murdoch offers all courses; Joondalup offers the Cert III & Cert IV; Midland offers the Cert III only. In Regional W.A. - Bunbury offers all courses; Albany offers the Cert II to Cert IV.
College(s): Challenger, West Coast, Swan, South West Regional, Great Southern
Approximate Tuition Costs: A$5,000 per semester
Commencement/Intake Availability: Murdoch has February and July intakes for the Cert II & Cert III. All other intakes are Feb only.
Other Study Costs (paid to College upon start): There are material fees at Murdoch only for each course. These are around: A$425 (Cert II), A$350 (Cert III), A$400 (Cert IV), A$300 (Diploma).
Other Info: Students will need to have appropriate clothing for working outside, safety boots, secateurs, a sharpening stone, ear muffs and a cartridge respirator. These can be purchased through the College.*

This program can include multiple courses and different entry and exit points providing students the flexibility to begin at the most suitable stage and continue studying till they reach their desired outcome. Please see the study pathway diagram below.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

All entry into this program is at the Certificate II level. This requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English, Maths & Science.

For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary (PDF) for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.


Career Outcomes

Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can work as Environmental Workers, Land Management/Revegetation Officers, Land care Workers and Technical Officers.


Further Study & University Options

Successful completion of the Diploma may allow students to continue further studies at university in related subjects. Please contact your specific university of interest for more details on entry.


Other Study Costs:

There are material fees at Murdoch only for each course. These are around: A$425 (Cert II), A$350 (Cert III), A$400 (Cert IV), A$300 (Diploma).

Dress requirements are for a work shirt, shorts/trousers, hat, sun screen, gloves (optional) and safety boots (which will cost around A$150 - A$250). The equipment required are: secateurs, a sharpening stone, ear muffs and a cartridge respirator. These will cost about A$250. Uniforms and equipment can be purchased through the College.
