Challenger (Murdoch) graduates can enter the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Management or Environmental Biology) at Notre Dame university or the Bachelor of Technology (Environmental Technology) at Murdoch university.
University Credit Possible? Up to 12 months of credit may be granted in these degrees at Notre Dame and Murdoch
Other Study Costs (paid to College): There are material fees at Murdoch only of around A$250 for the Cert IV and A$250 for the Diploma

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry at Certificate IV level requires the equivalent of Australian Year 11 with passes in English & Science or completion of the Certificate III in Laboratory Skills.

For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary (PDF) for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.


What You'll Learn in Each Course

The Certificate IV provides students with the training to gather and process environmental data for the purpose of minimising the impact of human activity on the environment. Students learn scientific and technical skills used in environmental impact assessment and management practices, waste management, pollution monitoring, and energy management. They also learn about biology, wetland management, soil science, statistical and geographical information systems (GIS), computing applications, and environmental issues and laws.

The Diploma provides students with the skills to measure and record environmental information, study, assess and develop methods of controlling or minimising the harmful effects of human activity on the environment. Subjects include sustainability issues and strategies, Australian flora and fauna, toxic managing contaminated sites, environmental auditing, and systems and project management. Students will apply the skills learnt by undertaking an environmental project.


Career Outcomes

Depending on the stage of completion, graduates can become an environmental technician, assistant field hydrologist, water resource officer and catchments coordinator for local government. With experience, they can work as operators or supervisors in large organisations in waste transport, mining, disposal treatment facilities, farming and local government.


Further Study & University Options

Completion of the Diploma will allow Challenger (Murdoch) graduates to enter the Bachelor of Science (Environmental Management or Environmental Biology) at Notre Dame university or the Bachelor of Technology (Environmental Technology) at Murdoch university. Up to 12 months credit is available in these degrees.

Diploma graduates of other TAFE WA Colleges may be able to continue further studies at university in related subjects. Please contact your specific university of interest for more details on entry.

There are material fees at Murdoch only of around A$250 for the Certificate IV and A$250 for the Diploma.
