Veterinary Nursing (Certificate IV)

Provides students with the skills and knowledge to assist veterinarians in the treatment and care of animals needing medical and/or surgical attention and to carry out reception duties. Students assist surgical operations, take blood tests and x-rays and prepare medicines prescribed by the vet. The college has its own veterinary clinic where all the practical training is undertaken.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry into the Certificate IV requires the equivalent of Australian Year 12 with passes in Maths, Science and English or completion of the Cert III in Companion Animal Services.

For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary (PDF) for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.


What You'll Learn in This Course

This qualification provides students with the practical skills and knowledge to assist veterinarians in the treatment and care of animals needing medical and/or surgical attention and to carry out reception duties.


Career Outcomes

Successful completion of this course allows graduates to become a Veterinary Nurse which assist in all aspects of duties carried out by veterinary surgeons. They can be employed for reception duties or as surgical or general assistants to a veterinary surgeon.
