Advanced Stablehand - Racing (Certificate III)

Provides the skills and knowledge to work as a stable hand. The student learns about horse handling and safety, care of horses and the operations of a thoroughbred or harness racing stable. The course also includes 6 hours per week of work experience placement.

General Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites

Entry into this course requires the equivalent of Australian Year 10 with passes in English, Maths & Science.

For Yr 10-11 and Yr 12 academic equivalence, please refer to the Entry Requirements Summary (PDF) for your relevant country. This also details the normal English proficiency standard needed.


What You'll Learn in This Course

An advanced stable hand (sometimes referred to as stable foreman) is a person who is in charge of daily operations in a thoroughbred or harness racing stable. In a harness racing stable the stablehand cares for standardbred horses. The advanced stable hand works to the delegated instructions of a trainer who has overall responsibility for the enterprise. An advanced stablehand directs and co-ordinates one or more stablehands when operating as a foreman in the stable environment.


Work Experience, Activities & Events


The course also includes 6 hours per week of work experience placement.


Career Outcomes

Successful completion of this qualification provides graduates with the opportunity to become an Advanced Stablehand.


Further Study & University Options

Students can continue on to study the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.


Additional Program Costs (paid directly to the College)


There is a material fee of A$300 per semester paid to the College.
